didn't rupert sheldrick show this 20 years ago:
Could Experimenter Effects Occur in the Physical and ... ( this is a very tame version published in scientific inquirer, but you get the point)

here's the sharper edge of the spear:
An Experimental Test of the Hypothesis of Formative Causation

I'm just an inquiry to perpetuate doubt guy :)
Well of course, when I say I am beginning to suspect something, I am certainly not claiming I am the first person to do so!

I don't think Sheldrake likes Idealism, and I don't think those quite relate to what I was saying. What he does say, of course is that there is evidence that crystals of a totally new compound 'discover' a way to crystallise that is then accessed by other samples of the same compound. The effects had been known for a long time, but was attributed vaguely to minute crystal seeds blowing around, or even to the idea that such crystals got lodged in chemist's beards and spread with them from lab to lab!

I was thinking of the kind of tricks games programmers use. For example people in the background are modelled far more crudely than those in the foreground at any instant in time.

Yes, there's such a distinction between helping people with the life issues by opening them to the deeper dimensions of our reality and communications that are primarily intended to be developmental in a different way.

I am curious about 'ancestral past'. Do you mean chains of live reaching back , ancestral in terms of racial or cultural heritage [maybe involving group karma] or a broader sense of human ancestors?

I have been reading Graham Hancock's works extensively this year [revisiting most of them actually], so I am keenly interested "insights into antiquity and the nature of civilisation as “history repeats itself”. The recent Skeptiko show with Bruce Fenton relates.

Do you have enough material on this theme for another Skeptiko show?
Sorry for the delay, been a busy week. Yes, I mean ancestral as in the behaviour, patterns and even genes handed down through generations. I’m really interested in epigenetics because of what I’ve gleaned from my own work. I’m noticing ancestors are returning to try to put right some of the wrongs of the past to help the future generations. Funnily enough, I too am very interested in antiquity. Love Graham Hancock’s work. It isn’t in this capacity though that spirit loved ones usually communicate. Spirit guides are the ones showing me the ancient past and history repeating itself. I’m no expert though.

hi Claire... Thanks all these awesome responses!

I know I'm a little late to this party, but I wanted to re-emphasize (and thank you for) one point that has continued to resonate ever since our interview -- we are spirits.

of course we've all heard" we're spiritual beings living a human existence," but for some reason our interview drove this point home for me in a new way... what if our human existence really is just a small part of our spiritual whole... maybe we have assumed this particular role, on this stage, in this little out-of-the-way theater :)
Thank you, Alex and yes that’s pretty much the way I’m seeing it too these days. Spirit first and foremost. Thank you so much again for having me on your fab podcast

As I understand it, epi-genetics is still a totally materialist concept. DNA gets passed on with little chemical tags stuck onto it. These tags alter the frequency with which a gene (made of a DNA of course) is transcribed into the corresponding protein. Put like that, I'm not convinced it explains the phenomena you are discussing.

My feeling is that science is really incomplete when it comes to consciousness, and therefore I'd be very wary of taking it too seriously in such matters. Then of course, you need to think that all our understanding of science comes via our consciousness, so that gap in science could be very, very big indeed!

hey sam, what did you think of episode 427 with claire? I thought she had a great perspective on these negative forces and how they might fit in the grander scheme of things... and more importantly, how transcending / transmuting them might be part of our path.

When I dive into an episode like this, I take notes, write my thoughts, etc. At the moment I am at 1:04:30 - "...and you were a seer..."
ok, a seer... another word for that is -

clairvoyant - a person who claims to have a supernatural ability to perceive events in the future or beyond normal sensory contact.
from here

clairvoyant - and her name is Claire :)

[EDIT ADDED] 5 or so minutes after making the above original post - I started up my listening/note taking process where Alex moves the conversation into grief. Yet my inner chatter suddenly said, "I wonder if she was truly named by her parents as Claire and if so, this suggests the possibility her parents as well (or at least one of them) has the capacity for "acting as an antenna." So I decided to go to google to see if perhaps there might be some information as to whether this was her given name. I didn't find the answer to my question (note though that I would make odds a million to one Claire is her true given name) but I did experience the following:

The first link delivered by the Google search is to her website - http://www.clairevoyant.co.uk/
haha... I guess the clue was so obvious she grabbed the URL!

So are you saying that every action in the universe is the deliberate act of an individual will that it do so? Or that only the law it behaves was Intended?

There is fundamental as in 'substrate' - (a necessary base or core) - like the foundation of a building or underlayment of a slab or road
There is plenary as in 'comprised in its entirety' - (the complete essence of something)

You mean the latter? Because I take the word to mean the former - and that is the cause for some confusion then :)

Of course the universe in both cases can well be an illusion... however, specifying that a conscious will directs every quantum action in the universe... are you contending that?

Hi TES, I think you are pointing out a problem we have when we go imagining at a universal level. We are stuck between two states that seem to be paradoxical - the universe is timeless and yet also infinitely long - instant and ageless at the same time. We are left in a state of uncertainty about our experience of what is, until.... I don't do the technical stuff of Quantum Science. I just recognise the links with higher level metaphysics.

Conscious will operates at different levels - via the various discrete agencies. God's will [for example] is not specific at our ground level, but is devolved through progressive lower level agencies, which add specificity, until it gets to us.

I notice we keep on talking about QS as if we are the only agents involved in exerting influence, rather the last [maybe not] in a chain.

I think part of what we are here to learn is reason/logic/testing -> ergodicity effect so that we do not become dangerous in our ability to create. Dangerous to our fellows in the next realm (if it exists).

Wow! "so that we do not become dangerous in our ability to create" is a hugely deep thing to say. Its probably everything we are here to learn if you allow the heart component as well - the love, compassion, wisdom. It is enough that we are so dangerous here when we get the reason/logic/testing wrong, but so much more when we excise the love/compassion/wisdom from our conceptions and formulations.

The "next realm" exists, of that there is no doubt.

I love reading the responses on here. So much to learn and marinate with.

One of the reasons I could not possibly be religious is because I have been guided to many religious philosophies by my own spirit teachers. Plus, in readings with clients I’m often shown their own religious preferences and the preferences of their spirit loved ones. Given that spirit people of different faiths can connect through mediumship, it doesn’t appear to matter in spirit which one we favour. Therefore, which religion would I pick given it appears all paths lead to Rome? There is a book by Helen Greaves called Testimony of Light, which is the channelled communications from a deceased nun to a friend. The book indicates there are indeed people still practicing their chosen faith, in spirit.

I have appreciated reading this for the following reason. I have participated on a few forums which explore this subject matter in depth. And what I encountered was what I termed "paradigm wars." This is when one person (or group) maintains the other worldly indications point to a greater reality but that this greater reality negates the possibility of the existence of a different paradigm they interpret as competing.

I call this greater reality Level 2 (or "soft physicality) where Level 3 is this material reality which I refer to as "hard physicality." And I think the problem so many folks have is that they are so mesmerized and anchored in their viewpoint as an individuated expression of consciousness anchored in the body vehicle as it ties in with hard physicality that they then apply the dynamics of Level 3 and assume they must apply to Level 2.

So three or so years ago I shifted my own approach with another such that I would strive to identify the world views and paradigm(s) held by the other and strive to communicate through the same metaphors honored by their paradigm(s). This adjustment to my set of operational protocols has resulted in a significant expansion of relationships with those open to anything otherworldly.

Why i so much appreciated what Claire stated was that this isn't just a dynamic that applies to hard physicality. It seems that folks who are currently anchored in the Level 2 experiential realms might also have affinity with specific paradigms.

As an example, for some there might be the dynamic of a traditional Christian strain where you are born, live, die and continue in an eternal afterlife in either a heaven or a hell. With the Catholic version, there's the opportunity for purgatory (sort of a "spiritual probation" where one can earn rights back and have their record expunged). And then you may have an Eastern paradigm of a particular Buddhist strain where one reincarnates again and again until they find a way to solve their complex karmic Rubik's Cube and BOOM, their out of the trap of life after life after life - always filled with suffering. These are just examples of what I call paradigms.

And so what I currently "like to believe" (emphasis that I do not call this "my truth" or knowledge) is that we, at the level of our soul which is, for me, the heart of very being is that a spirit being can experience whatever paradigm they wish to explore, that they can modify or expand it and that if they wish, they can leave it and engage with another paradigm. I also like to believe we can form new paradigms and even blend existing ones into new ones, etc. The Ascended Master thingie is a paradigm... Theosophy, the Fourth Way, and get this... UFOlogy has become a paradigm. The Movie / Video Game world is generating all sorts of experiential paradigms that become religions (like the Star Wars religion... yes, this actually exists) and so why cannot these paradigmatic realities form momentun that attracts others into it and survives death as well?

Claire, in her post, indicates to me this is not only possible, it is occurring. I love it! Fantastic... and anything but boring! (harps were created in hell!... ok, just kidding).

I do believe we suffer amnesia for good reason when we enter a physical existence. I don’t believe we could benefit from our lives as much as we do, if we could remember every other previous life or future life. Perhaps the joy in life comes from the not knowing as much as the discovering? I don’t believe we are interfering with our life purpose by seeking knowledge though. Given I was lead to spiritual knowledge and didn’t actively seek it, it seems the spirit world would like us to remember at least some of the truth. I believe spiritual seeking is necessary to human survival. It seems to be an instinctual need in so many of us.

We would certainly lose intensity, yes? And when folks ask me why I think hard physicality is so cool is for that very reason, the intensity. And I am completely down with your thought regarding "not knowing." In fact, some of my friends seek their fortunes told and they can't understand why I won't do it and I tell them, "Its simple, I enjoy the wonderment, the ever unfolding surprises, the intensity that a single lifetime can end at any moment and thus this explains the drive I have in making each moment count."

But having said that, I am thankful my experiences this lifetime have provided me all the convincing I need. I am convinced that my individuated experience from the "higher" (Level 2, soft physicality) perspective, my soul, considering the primary property I have chosen to believe the soul maintains - that being the right to eternal life if my soul so desires (as opposed to a Right Hand Path predetermined result of eventual self annihilation), I live without fear of the death of my Level 3 body vehicle.

I believe (speaking for myself only) this is true freedom.

Our ability to create false memories has long been a cause célèbre of social skeptics. However, this ability to contemporaneously erase events from memory (while they are occurring essentially, and not as a factor of trauma after the event is over) - I wonder how much this is studied?

If it exists, there is porn of it, and there is a weapon derived from it.

Yes, the porn is well established in the "conspiracy circles." In fact, many believe one or more of the more popular nefarious parties (such as evil aliens, "CIA black ops MK Ultra programs) use a technique called "implantation of screen memories" where the target has a particular memory of a fantastical anomalous experience but that very memory is simply implanted to mask over a far worse, traumatic experience. Some theories go so far as to believe "evil aliens" are in cahoots with black op Military organizations. And then to your second point, if any of this might be true, then yes, it has been weaponized.

And this is exactly why (in my most humble opinion) as each of us explore the nature and science of being beyond the limits of a mind confined by materialist science, those scary possibilities can be more easily navigated.

Perhaps the joy in life comes from the not knowing as much as the discovering? I don’t believe we are interfering with our life purpose by seeking knowledge though.

I manage to 'forget' my day job every afternoon and on weekends - well, most of the time. Point is that 'memory', which is hardly reliable, can consume us, as anybody who has found themselves obsessing over a dramatic incident will admit.

But the reflexes seem to remain with us, just not the content of our perception of what triggers them. We are lousy informants as to why we behave. For starters we don't actually know, we just imagine we do, at best.

The other important thing is that a pst life memory is useless in a current life. Suppose in you last life your were a Royal, but in this life you are a peasant. How would it help to carry over memory?

What seems to be the case is that we carry over psychological predispositions [this is evident with competent astrology] with which we must work in our present life. Sometimes that's a great thing that gives us a nice push along toward current life success, and other times it becomes a real challenge.

A former partner of mine believed she had been high born and on another planet. Sure fitted her persona - which is why 'former'. Its a mercy she didn't 'remember' because that would have been awkward - better she just had inclinations she had to sort through and manage. I think I had a past life as a Catholic priest of high standing. I have had to struggle with inclinations toward personal attributes that I am now embarrassed by, and ashamed of. I am grateful the 'memory' of that person has not intruded into my life and I have developed my own character over time.

Actually this in an important matter. Memory comes with character, not as packets of information. There's a good reason that, while we bring the existential consequences of our actions with us, we do not bring the character, the personality. of course personalities are crafted in the world we live in, and have no value outside it. If you were a fishwife before and a Pastor now, you'd not want the fishwife's personality to express through the persona of the Pastor, would you?

Um, how exactly do you prove something by modelling it?

Models typically contain far too many bits of approximate logic, and guessed parameters - how do you produce a proof out of that?

https://notrickszone.com/2016/04/20...-hardly-trustworthy-says-top-climate-modeler/

David
You are right. But even having a model is better than what NDE'rs have. It really requires faith. But we all know death is coming.

Their is no way of conceptualizing *all* of the data.

The Greyson scale is not a model of the NDE experience anymore than early ideas of atoms from ancient greece were models! Not because I discount the qualitative nature of experience, far from it, but because we simply cannot understand the meaning behind the obvious contradictions. We lack the tools to see what is really real here.

Yay or nay? I just want to bring back doubt. If Neppe and close are right or the soulphone works you win. If Sam Parnia gets the timing issue resolved, you win that battle. I tend to side with parnia anyway.

What you are saying - and I agree - is that there is no totally understandable reason why physical life should have any value if there is an afterlife. That might be true, but by exactly the same, rather simplistic argument, there is no point in watching a play or reading a novel because the events portrayed never happened! Equally, if you jump to the other extreme and decide to be a materialist, there still isn't a decent rational for pushing on with life - or doing anything - all that any of it amounts to, is a set of particles moving one way or in a slightly different way!

The truth is that nobody really believes the materialistic story - which is why that vast majority of people are not stuck in that nihilistic hole. I think this tells us something, which is that we all observe the world around us, and we also observe our own emotions and find ways to interact with other living creatures on the earth. Science has given us a very partial description of the reality we perceive, which it pretends extends to absolutely everything we perceive - but it obviously doesn't.

Some intellectual people take the concept that science (at least as currently formulated) can be extrapolated to cover everything - the universe, our emotions and memories etc - way too seriously because it is only natural to try to push ideas as far as possible, but they do this by disconnecting themselves from a great deal of life, or they play a game. The game is to split reality in two (without any scientific or other justification). One half of reality is the one where they fall in love, love their kids, dislike certain other people, respond to their hunches etc, the other reality is the one they use to discuss consciousness from a 'scientific' viewpoint.

David
I agree. I am looking for a new paradigm.

As for materialism and nihilism being related, sure, but social status and wealth helps a lot.
