Solomon: These once-secret memos cast doubt on Joe Biden's Ukraine story
Former Vice President Joe Biden, now a 2020 Democratic presidential contender, has locked into a specific story about the controversy in Ukraine.
He insists that, in spring 2016, he strong-armed Ukraine to fire its chief prosecutor solely because Biden believed that official was corrupt and inept, not because the Ukrainian was investigating a natural gas company, Burisma Holdings, that hired Biden's son, Hunter, into a lucrative job.
There’s just one problem.
Hundreds of pages of never-released memos and documents — many from inside the American team helping Burisma to stave off its legal troubles — conflict with Biden’s narrative.

I only watched as far as the wall, but it seemed to me that those were not exactly true-false comparisons.

As I understand it, some wall was put up under Obama (so why did they make such a fuss about it) and presumably this was strengthened. There was bound to be some sort of barrier at the border until the era of the no-borders madness!

Also, asserting the best economy depends on what measure was used.

Calling those lies is pretty misleading, at best.

OK - I as I predicted (LOL!) President Trump is still in power, and the impeachment attempt failed!

Now I suggest that we have maybe one more day on this subject (to allow time for no more than a mini gloat!), and then let it drop for a bit. This will give more oxygen to Skeptiko's core subjects, such as the current podcast from Kevin Annett, which I think was far more interesting than the previous one.

You gotta be kiddin. The fact checkers need fact checkers. These fact checkers are lying to you.

Why do some people select certain "fact keepers" and select them as bastions of truth? Why would these people be any more honest than the person you (and the fact checkers) are accusing of being dishonest?

This is an inherently dishonest game. Chose someone who confirms your biases and then exalt them.

OTOH I actually know a lot about, for example, economics and I say Trump is telling the truth.

Another topic I know something about having once been assigned to patrol along the border of Arizona and Mexico. Unlike liberals crying about this, I have personally seen banditos crossing through holes in the lousy old fence, seen huge caches of dope left for pick up by narcos on the USA side of the border, found the dead illegals being picked on by vultures and once was shot at by narco traffickers, etc, etc. I also called border patrol on illegals and had a bunch of them picked up and caged.

This was pre-Obama days, but the old border fence sucked and couldn't stop a blind toddler from crossing. And that's within 100 yards of some of the small less utilized ports of entry, let alone farther out in the wilderness. A friend of mine is a border patrol agent in Arizona and he sends me pics of what's going on (and/or posts on facebook). Yes. some wall is being built at key points along the border. More is coming soon. There would be more already except the liberal courts put injunctions on the construction as did congress. The desert is a big barrier in some sectors. No need for a wall because anyone who tries to cross there gets killed by the heat and elements. SO the wall gets built in the heaviest crossing zones. Makes sense doesn't it?

But yeah...some smart ass liberal sitting on the east coast fact checking in his mother's basement probably knows more about this than me or my friend.

Nancy Pelosi should resign
BY JONATHAN TURLEY, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 02/05/20
I think what Pelosi did was sophomoric and utterly undignified. I'm aligned with the general criticism she's receiving for her behavior. A few excerpts from the article especially resonated with me:
Her drop the mic moment will have a lasting impact on the House. While many will celebrate her trolling of the president, she tore up something far more important than a speech. Pelosi has shredded decades of tradition, decorum and civility that the nation could use now more than ever. The House speaker is more than a political partisan, particularly when carrying out functions such as the State of the Union address. A president appears in the House as a guest of both chambers of Congress. The House speaker represents not her party or herself but the entirety of the chamber. At that moment, she must transcend her own political ambitions and loyalties.

And the close:
That act was more important to Pelosi than preserving the tradition of her office. In doing so, she forfeited the right to occupy that office. If Pelosi cannot maintain the dignity and neutrality of her office at the State of the Union, she should resign as the speaker of the House of Representatives.

This is similar to much of the same criticism that is levied at Trump. Is there a double standard here, or should we hold all elected officials, including Trump, to the same benchmark?

Trump has done more to damage the dignity, decorum, tradition and civility in politics than any politician in recent history. This is an objective fact.

Your choice to link this article seems rife with irony and I'd be curious as to your response. I won't hold my breath, however.

Hi David,

Can you explain what you mean "let drop for a bit"?

Thanks

We've been treated very unfairly. Fortunately we have great men and women that came to our defense. If we didn't, this would have been a horrific incident for our country.
When you have Lisa and Peter, the lovers, the FBI lovers, "I want to believe the path you threw out for deputy director Andrew McCabe", that's the office, "there's no way he gets elected", meaning me, "there's no way he gets elected". This is Peter to Lisa he's probably trying to impress her for obvious reasons, "there's no way he gets elected but I'm afraid we can't take the risk". You know, think of this, in other words if I get elected they can't, they two low lifes, they can't take the risk, they can't take the risk, think of it. And that's where it came up, the greatest word of all, "insurance policy". So he says "but I'm afraid we can't take the risk she may lose. It's like an insurance policy in the unlikely event you die before you're 40".
In other words if I won they were going to do exactly what they did to us. They were going to try and overthrow the government of the United States, a duly elected president. And if I didn't fire James me we would have never found this stuff. Because when I fired that sleazebag all hell broke out. They were ratting on each other, they were running for the hills.
Let's see what happens. Let's see what happens. It's in the hands of some very talented people we're gonna have to see what happens. But I can tell you in my opinion these are the crookedest most dishonest dirtiest people I've ever seen.

Trump is now playing on the Democrats’ home turf. Trump has now secured all 63 million Trump voters from 2016. He’s secured the entire white middle class. Now, he’s going after Democrat voters. Now he’s going after black, Hispanic and female voters. Now he’s playing on Democrat’s home field.
Trump is Reagan. He’s aiming for a Reagan/Mondale-like landslide. And all Democrats have is that image of a petulant, bitter, childish Nancy Pelosi.

The irony is lost. Republicans can accuse Biden of nepotism and manage to keep a straight face.

Since Jim refuses to engage in any sort of dialogue favoring a barrage of propaganda, might anyone else be willing to offer a response to the question I posed in post #1331.

Actually what she did was commit a felony. Ironic for someone who said more than anyone else, "No one is above the law."

18 U.S.C. § 2071, Section 2071 (a)

US Code prohibits the destruction of government records

This violation is punishable by up to three years in prison
