---Introduce yourself---

Hello everyone!

I was an agnostic, I had a tantric experience happen spontaneously to me, then I went on a path of trying to figure out what the hell was going on. I meditated every day for 3 months and had a spiritual revelation that was I underneath reality, making all of reality happen and this little patch of Matthew was the experience I was having right now.

Now I specialise in trying to make the simplest most concise arguments for a mind behind reality. I have a YouTube channel: Consciousness Matters and I would love as much help as anyone has time to give in solving the problem of communicating 'The Knowledge' around the idea of a mind based view of reality.

I think it's incredibly important that we understand how we change the world as conscious creatures and if our science still doesn't think or isn't sure that we do change the world, then I think that's bordering on crazy. I think we all have important work ahead of us.

I have spent a long time trying to listen and understand atheist arguments and anyone who opposes my ideas in an effort to take them as seriously as possible. I want to help human consciousness integrate it's understanding of self.

I want to build the strongest and most easily understood rational case for a mind behind reality.

I hope you're all well!

Matthew

Have you looked at Bernardo Kastrup?

David

I'm a member of the Bernardo Kastrup book club and we had him on :D Bernardo Kastrup, Book Club Idealism Q&A

He's good, but I'm not sure you can give my materialist friend a book by Bernardo and it change their mind.

Personally I think we need an admission from materialists that when I say "it feels like something to be me", that this utterance cannot possibly have a material cause, because then we wouldn't need minds as an explanation. I want to irrefutably sink materialism. I want my stubborn friend to concede ;)

My friend isn't just a metaphor, I actually have a very stubborn but very lovely materialist friend.

My name is Joe, and online I go by pereldan. I am 44, originally from New Orleans, and now live in central Pennsylvania. I've been listening to Skeptiko ever since Gordon White recommended Alex on his Rune Soup blog, but this is my first time checking out the forum. I consider myself more mystic than religious, and practice a very Taoist inspired form spirituality. I tend to be sporadic in my social interactions, both in person and online, but have always had a deep interest in the topics covered on Skeptiko.

Honestly, I was never much interested in history, politics, ORGANIZED religion until I realized just how much of it is skewed.
Sure, I have my personal interests, but seeing it go down in real time in the last few years brought it to the front.
Used to have fun volleying and such on stolenhistory.org a year ago before it went down and came back haunted. And stolenhistory.net never even came close to the discussion that used to be.
I see far and wide. Not many limitations to open minded thinking in regards to it all. No dogma to speak of.
How far do you want to go? How far CAN we take it?

My name is Christopher, btw, and I live in Colorado in the "US" () of A. Starmonkey is what I used on stolenhistory.org back in the day. Don't go there anymore. Comes from my Mayan signs in the Tzolkin by Jose Arguelles (kin 88, yellow planetary star) and the long count system Ian Xel Lungold used (something something monkey, can't remember all of it)...

Hello all, my name is Andrew. Started looking into NDE research as a result of some unresolved death anxiety (the concept of nothing for eternity terrifies me still). Been devouring anything I could find related to NDE research. Mostly it means following very closely all the interviews and podcasts Dr. Greyson has been apart of to help promote his new book, which I read and loved. Just wanted to be able to suggest one or two people I'd love to see be interviewed on Skeptiko.

My name Mike. Found Skeptiko years ago and been a long time listener. Finally decided to get on this forum and see what its all about. Very interested consciousness, nde, ufo, all things conspiracies. Hope to get more information from the forums,

Hey there. I found Alex's podcast while looking for interviews with someone like Dean Radin or Julie Beischel - I can't remember exactly who it was but it was someone I had heard interviewed by Jeffrey Mishlove on his New Thinking Allowed. I've pretty much only listened to his interviews with people when they focused on some aspect of consciousness, such as NDEs, mediumship, or parapsychology. I've been meaning to check out the forum since Alex always mentions it in his podcast and finally did!

Hey everyone, I'm Jon. I'm an ex academic (PhD in Engineering, focused on medical device algorithms), currently working on my own stuff. Always was sympathetic and curious about fringe-ier stuff like Alex gets into, but it took the craziness of the last 18 months to get me to "red pill" me and get me to really take it more seriously.

Hi all, I'm Flowers and I'm a postgrad who's worked in the SEN sector for years. Early childhood trauma, addiction and attachments are a large part of my working life. I've listened to many Skeptiko podcasts since the Parnia show in 2010. NDEs are fascinating and I make no bones about being an agnostic materialist with an open mind.

welcome.

not sure I get the agnostic materialist fascinated with NDEs??? what do you think is happening in these cases?

Hello Alex, pleased to meet you.

They're just hurried words to fill the space in the introduction thread. Don't be distracted by the Parnia reference. I'd read about his research for years (objects and images scattered around the ER) and searching for more information led to the Skeptiko interview. If I recall correctly, he'd set it up as a means to discredit NDE accounts and that's not what I was looking for at the time.

I don't know what's happening with NDEs and make no claims about answers. I'm agnostic in the true sense of being indeterminate, liminal and as apt to argue one side as the other.
