227. Continued... continued... feedback on new forum

When someone posts in BvS it doesn't seem to show up in the New Posts tab. Actually, it doesn't seem that posts from this subforum show up either.

It does for me. That is how I saw this post. It was at the top of "New Posts." Do you have cookies enabled?

I hesitate to mention it on this thread, Alex, but I think it more likely you'll see it here.

The "preview" option for replies is only available on the "More Options" menu. I think it's useful to have the preview button there by default along with "Post Reply" and "Upload a File" to save the bother of having to click for preview every time.

Doesn't look like the "Extended Consciousness and Spirituality" forum activity is included on the New Posts page

pls suggest some better ones (easy to find with google images).
Wow, so many to choose from. A bit bewildering. Comparing what I see on Google, I vote you just go back to the colored ones you had on at first - they grew on me. It's also nice they aren't all yellow.

They could have been just a tiny bit smaller (the new ones are too faint, too small, too drab and too limited in choice), but otherwise I find they did the job.

On another note, Alex, I think you did well by making the link a little bigger to this forum on the main Skeptiko page and labelling it "community". You know, for months I listened to the show and you kept talking about "the forum" and didn't know what you were talking about - it took me a while to see the link and figure out it was more than the comments at the bottom of the Skeptiko page!

I just noticed that there's a "Delete Thread" option available to the originator of a thread. Is this subject to approval by the mods? I think that, after a certain point, a thread belongs to everyone, not just the OP.

Yeah, more smileys. They are perfect to indicate in what way a post should be read. There are so many times people seem to misjudge or misunderstand some peoples posts, and think they are rude, dismissive, or mean etc. Emoticons saves the day.
post of link of smileys you like.

Actually, I realised that it's not so much because they are white, as that their outlines are faint. Anyway, it's a complete rabbit warren once you start looking for icons on the Web: license agreements, different sizes and formats, etc. I see that there are lots of emoticons available for Xenforo (see here: http://xenforo.com/community/resources/xenforo-extended-smilies.906/), some of which may have been available when you first started the new forum. They look OK to me, certainly better than the ones we have now. I think one or two people might have reacted to them because they weren't like on the old forum, but in time we may have got used to them.

Ok Alex, have a look at this smiley-pack. It's a collection of forum smileys (static, no GIFs) and it seem to cover the whole spectrum of emotions :)

Here is the site> http://adminextra.com/threads/ipb-smiley-pack.1755/

..and here is the pack> http://adminextra.com/attachments/ipb-smiley-pack-adminextra-com-zip.422/

I post the preview so other people can have their own POV of it.>

I liked the first set though, as they are pretty distinct. The last set isn't that bad either. It seem to have a wider set as well.
But lets hear what other people have to say about it.

I really enjoy the look of the new forum. Not to be snarky, but one suggestion would be to fix the spelling of ''dialogue' at the top of the page.

Actually dialog is an acceptable spelling.

That way of spelling it is correct in the USA, I think, though some Americans also use the Brit English spelling and we both tend to use it in some contexts, e.g. "dialog box".

2. when you create a new thread you can add the Mod+ prefix to it... at this point it's up to skeptics to check themselves a bit before posting here.
I'm not sure what is meant by this. Is this something members are able to do? I just created a thread and put "Please Mod+ this thread" in the first post, because I couldn't see if/how it was possible for me to add that prefix to the thread itself.
