We share many of the same thoughts and concerns regarding diabetes, complex system manipulations, etc....I would characterize my own feelings on genetic engineering as ever evolving, meaning that the more I learn, the more I am intrigued and want to learn more.
Definitely look more into CRISPR and let me know how you feel about stuff like this:

Thanks for the link. Sounds like something I am totally for getting investigated and used. (There more I learn about stem cells, it aggravates me we haven't done more research there). Correct me if I'm missing something, but this sounds way more targeted and safer than the GMOS in food. They're repairing a specific gene that is already messed up in the host and therefore in the generated stem cells. Doesn't seem like something that has grave risk to the environment or to the population as a whole, from what I can tell. Most of the risk seems to be to the patient targeted for treatment, for a disease that can't be super common (relative to global population anyhow 1.5 million vs ~7 billion, I think we're at now?). Stem cell treatments sound very promising, in general. CRISPR sounds like a way to enhance that to me. Until I see something to worry about, I'm all for it for now! If I was blind I would sign up for it today. Then again, if I was blind I would eat the new frankenfish salmon by the dozen if I thought it would help in the slightest!
Thanks for sharing ;-)
