This is kinda off the top of head... open to later editing based on feedback. We're trying to create a place where folks can hash out stuff that probably doesn't fit into the Skeptiko Podcast forum. This isn't a place for soap-boxing, or mean-spirited pontifications, but there is a need for a place where we can discuss stuff that probably donesn't fit well in the Skeptiko Podcast forum. For example, in ep. 199 I talked to Chris White about his debunking of the Ancient Aliens television series. Along the way, Chris revealed that he believes in a literal interpretation of the Bible (Noah's Ark... and everything else). Now the idea that this guy named Noah put all these animals on a boat and sailed around for a year seems silly to me. But that doesn't mean Chris is a dumb guy. In fact, his debunking of Ancient Aliens was quite well done. I learned a lot. On one hand, I wouldn't want to use the Skeptiko Podcast forum to have a long, bible-verse-laden discussion with Chris on the Noah's Ark issue. It's just a little too off-the-wall and would distract from the other stuff most listeners (and I) would want to discuss. One the other hand, I wouldn't mind hashing this out a little bit. I mean, I would like to understand how/why Chris came to believe this. And I might like to take a quick peek at his "evidence". So, that's the kind of discussion we could have here in the Believer Versus Skeptic Debates forum. Now obviously, the topic of Noah's Ark hasn't come up very often on Skeptiko, but stuff like scientific materialism has. The problem for me (and a lot of other poeple) with engaging in discussions about scientific materialism is that I've done about 50 shows on the topic and have said the same stuff over and over. That doesn't mean you have to agree, but you can see where I might want to move on and talk about some stuff that lies beyond. That's what we're going to do on the Skeptiko Podcast forum.
