---Introduce yourself---

Hello all

I've kind of done things backwards, having joined and posted a new thread in the Science And Consciousness forum, and now coming back here to introduce myself.

I've been listening to the podcast for quite some time. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon it. My specific area of interest is the mind/body problem.

Hi! :)

Hi there, I'm a long time listener. Really appreciate what Alex is doing. I'm from Europe and I have 3 scientific degrees, all in engineering. I love science, but I love truth more. If you want to see what I believe in, then please see the about page of my blog.

My contact info is:

Nice to meet you all! Let's make some noise.

The Architect? Hi, I have a question for you- that high-sounding speech you gave Neo? What was up with that?

Hi everybody, I started reading this forum and following the show because I was looking for information on the aware study. This is a subject I have a lot of interest in. I am a lawyer by trade with a masters degree in Film making as well. There is a lot of seemingly very smart people on here.

An aside, before a person discounts eyewitness testimony you need to know why it is allegedly unreliable. Nearly all crimes in this country are prosecuted on nothing more than eyewitness testimony and Lawyers get routinely frustrated with people who watch too much CSI. If you have a hundred witnesses say for the most part the same thing, with of course differences because they are seeing the same thing from a different point of view. Then the testimony is very reliable.

The other subject I have an interest in is dreams. This is a personal thing for me. I have a story that could really change peoples minds about what a dream is or means, but I'm not sure anyone really cares about that.

thanks for the interesting reads.

As with many things - context matters. This is a subject that interests me as well and I think deserves more of a focussed discussion on this forum. Why don't you start a thread in the Critical Discussions subforum and we can look into this?

Welcome to the forum!

Hi, thanks for introducing yourself, and welcome. You've an interesting background which could offer a useful perspective on the topics we discuss here. Regarding the dream topic, that sounds interesting, if you'd be willing to share more, perhaps in a separate thread in maybe the consciousness and science
or extended consciousness & spirituality sub-forum.

Thanks everyone for responding. I will perhaps post some things in the threads mentioned above.

The dream subject I am interesting in getting feedback on, but it is perhaps the most personal experience I have. I completely understand a persons lack of willingness to discuss NDE's and other such experience. There is such an immense fear about talking about such things. Where it comes from I don't know, but I can tell you it is extremely real. Any research into dreams, or NDE's or psychic experiences has to find a way to overcome this fear.

I am from Germany, and take an interest in science, and early Christian history and art. My degree is in computer science, and subjects ranged from artificial intelligence, computer mathematics, all the way down to humble database programming.

I'm very skeptical of claims made for the supernatural, based on the fact that so many of them have been faked. If I have time, I will read an available scientific paper presented as evidence for a claim, so if some one presents such a paper, I do hope they have read it as well.

Hi,

I'm a skeptic, so naturally I'm really smart and mentally tough. Trust me, I've never lost a debate and I have all the facts.

This forum seems like a good place to meet other skeptics for my group. We're here to spread the good news about materialism.

Here's are some of the type of qualities I'm looking for:

*ability to pick out evidence which agrees with us, and ignore evidence which does not
*a burning desire to be right, or need to win every argument/discussion
*feeling of superiority / strong ego. Must have experience in being condescending
*strong faith that science can tell us everything we need to know about life
*strong distrust of any personal experience, including one's own. Ability to dismiss all compelling anecdotes
*insists on black-and-white answers. Not comfortable with uncertainty.
*must be willing to visit internet forums and share the joyful good news of materialism.

Note: No polymaths please. We prefer candidates who do not have a background in philosophy or history. Those subjects tend to get in the way. The ideal skeptic will be a technical specialist with a very narrow field of study.

It is unfortunate that JREF already found most of the top candidates. But if this sounds like you, join us! I'll start looking around the forum for good candidates!

Hi,
I'm Karen & am a licensed psychologist. Earlier this year my 14-1/2 year old son died unexpectedly. His death has challenged my belief system (I'm not religious, but do have my beliefs on life, death, afterlife, etc.) During my recent spiritual journey, I have ranged from extreme skeptic, discounting everything, to being more open-minded. I feel like I've turned a corner and am now firmly entrenched in being open-minded. (So, YAY!) I have trouble with just blindly believing something because someone says it's so, but also realize science can't answer all of life's questions. I've joined this forum to read other people's balanced views on the mystical.

Hi Karen, let me start out by welcoming you to the Skeptiko forum, everyone here's always thrilled when a new person comes along to observe or exchange ideas and conversation– more so when they have your credentials. It hurts me deep to discover that you came here due to your undescribable loss; I myself came here because my friend and coworker ended his life, and I've been on a spiritual quest ever since. After several weeks on here and having visited other sites, I can tell you that in spite of being a free, anonymous, public forum, thisplace is real friendly and may be the most balanced you'll find on consciousness subjects.

So please enjoy your time here, and I hope together we can find some answers.

Hi Karen,

I can relate to your loss. Though I was already on my way to questioning, I too had a family tragedy that "jump started" my search. Looking forward to your posts on the forum! Welcome!

Hello Everyone

I've been following Skeptiko for quite awhile now. The podcast intrigues me ... I'm not quite sure why I'm joining the forum now (rather than 3-4 years ago, or any time in between). I guess I just want to communicate with like minded people.

I'm sorry, I read that as you want to communicate with dead people. Although in some threads, you may not notice the difference :)

Anyway, welcome to the forum, RoseGardener, I hope together we can plant many a fruitful discussion.

Hello, my alias is r6.

A Cosmic Heirarchy

I begin with a shorten version of the above.

SPACE:

1) Non-occupied space is macro-micro infinite and embraces the following #2,
......meta(beyond)phyysical...

2) Occupied space---physical/energy{ our observed reality } and gravity ----is finite
...aka Universe or my preference as "U"niverse.....

Again this just an introductory, shorten version of my cosmic heirarchy.

A lot of my thinking is inspired by and stems from much of Bucky Fullers writings and as Fuller like to say, start with the whole--- ergo finite Universe ----and that way no parts can be left out of our considerations.

So that is what Ive done above.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spirit-1 = meta{beyond}physical intent via humans access to mind/intelligence ergo concepts

Spirit-2 = fermions{ matter } and bosons{ forces } aka physical/energy

Spirit-3 = gravity aka mass-attraction
--------------------------------------------------------------
Soul = biological/soul i.e. a collective composite of the above fermions and bosons in a specific pattern integrity we call biological life.

Fuller calls the a virus the the twilight zone between animate and inanimate i.e. between life and mineral. That is because the virus only has RNA or DNA, not both and only repreoduces itself once inside a cell that has both RNA and DNA.

Hello. I've been listening to Alex and Skeptiko for a long time, decided to join the forum. About me, well, I write on UFOs and anomalous things, and have experienced several UFO related events in my life, since childhood. I run several blogs, most of them devoted to some aspect of the unexplained. Bigfoot, ufos, etc. Oh enough about me, love Skeptiko!
