Alex Tsakiris: [00:00:06] Welcome to Skeptiko where we explore controversial science and spirituality with leading researchers, thinkers and their critics. I’m your host Alex Tsakiris and as many of you know, one of the goals of this show is to push past the stuck on stupid discussion around extended consciousness, and that’s really where science has pushed us, hasn’t it? I mean, let’s take past life regression for example, science would, of course, dismissed the entire phenomenon with a wave of the hand and maybe a little gibberish about extraordinary claims, require extraordinary proof. Worse yet, we’d be told, as we often are, that it’s actually a scam, perpetrated by greedy new agers, who are looking to exploit the weak and the gullible. So how do we push past that blockade that the pseudo skeptics have built?
Well, first of all, I’d suggest that you need the right kind of guest, and I’m thinking and hoping that we might have just that kind of guest today. Kathy Mingo is a psychic and a medium in the UK. She specializes in past life regression and shamanic healing work. She’s going to tell us what that means. She comes to us highly recommended by our friend Claire Broad, who documents her own rather amazing experience with Kathy in her new book. And as a special bonus, as Kathy and I were just chatting about, Kathy has been brave enough and open enough to agree to do…
Kathy Mingo: [00:01:41] Or stupid enough.
Alex Tsakiris: [00:01:45] But she has agreed to try and do some kind of demonstration. I don’t know how it’s going to turn out. She’d never done anything like this. We’re not like trying to test her in any way, because she said, “I’ve never done anything like that,” but I thought since her work is kind of unusual and unique, that just to give people, to give all of you and me, a sense for what it’s about, we might do a demonstration.
So with all that, Kathy welcome to Skeptiko and thank you so much for joining me.
Kathy Mingo: [00:02:13] Well, thanks Alex. I’m thanks for having me and hi to everyone at Skeptiko that’s listening in.

Alex, that was very interesting, but I had hoped that at the end you would go through the various points that Kathy discussed and give us a run-down as to how accurate they were.

Her visualisation of your rather unusual house sounded impressive.

How many of the people that she mentioned are real?

Did she know your full name, because that obviously gives away your Greek roots.

etc.

Did you feel that she had accessed significant information about you and your family (obviously you may want to avoid being too explicit about some personal information).

Its great having chats with practitioners as opposed to thinkers and theorists. Its important to have both, though. I am cool with everything Kathy did and said. I liked her raw practitioner perspective.

i think its important that nobody thinks what she does is a performance. Its a connection and requires interaction. I understood Alex's position. He had to make it difficult. Its not the psychic equivalent of pornography.

He says his grandfather came from Greece earlier in the interview.
True, Alex started trying to give as little away as possible, but then rather broke down. OTH his name more or less gives away his origins.

It would be good to hear a sitting with Kathy or someone else, with some other sitter where:

a) The person was present for the reading - I know some of Julie Beischel's mediums can manage without this (hats off to them), but that doesn't mean that everyone can.

b) The whole thing was designed around some sort of protocol - perhaps devised here.

c) It would go on longer, and maybe end up edited a bit, so that more relevant testable information would be handled.

In view of its relevance to what Kathy said, it would also be nice to see Alex's house!

a lot of stuff was incredibly spot on... including my grandfather Louie and our house.

not really. then again, I understand that no matter how many times you say this isn't a test people have a natural tendency to take it that way. I understand. but I was more interested in the aura stuff and found it interesting that kathy spontaneously moved into medium reading. I have no judgment about this I just think it's interesting regarding how these things might be connected.

For what it's worth I found the reading highly evidential... and I've done a bunch of these both personally and as a proxy.

Your house looks nice - and very Greek! Also this was something that Kathy was very definite about.

Well you are here like all of us to assess the reality of all this stuff, and it was your reading, so perhaps you should assess what the probability is that this reading might happen by chance. Also, how much do you think that would change if Kathy unconsciously recognised you were of Greek origin from your name, or did you take that for granted?

Did we hear the whole reading, or did you remove more personal bits that may have boosted your confidence?

Remember that in something like this, I have to play Devil's advocate, or should that be Wiseman's advocate?

David

Speaking of Devil’s Advocate. I was able to find Alex’s house within 5 mins on google.

In addition to this, it might be worth taking a look at a database like Pipl which is used by employers to investigate potential employees, it's possible to extract family information as well as things like criminal records.

Yep, or genealogy sites... BTW, by tuning in remotely to Alex's Auric Field I'm sensing that he's 61.

Hi Malf. I appreciate your position but I have always only worked with what I get given from above. I am a tecchiephobe as well so not overly versed. This has just verified for me so thankyou. I do not need to justify as I am fully booked till 2021 through word of mouth. My diary is done by the place I see clients of which I have no input. They only give first name and sometimes false names so I have no clue who is coming through the door yet people recommend me all the time. I understand people are closed and suspicious so you only have my word for it. I cannot change that sadly. My description of Alex house was not like the photo you posted though. I saw it more from an abstract kind of thing. Anyway thanks for posting and listening to the podcast. I do not work remotely so it was not my normal way of working but thought hey ho give it a go!!! I hope we someday move towards alignment with this sort of thing. Lots of love Kathy x

Hi David. Thank you for your comments. I agree with this actually to put to bed all of the variables to this type of work. How would you set up protocols to ensure fairness to both sides? What would be deemed as undisputable towards definitive proof? It is something that is hard to quantify given the etheral nature of it.
