I'd post my story, but unfortunately to do it all full justice I would have to give all of the events in question proper context, and without that they will invariably lose their full impact, immediate as they have been for me. And to do that it would must needs become a full novel, where I would have to disclose a lot of more confidential information than I would feel comfortable with.

Suffice it to say that I've been in intimate contact with some Force (for 23 years now) which has been guiding me, healing me (I was a total emotional basket case when young) and transforming my life into this surreal waking dream which is now my daily existence. They typically take the form of synchronicities involving wild animals, and now my favorite songs which will often synch (on random shuffle mode) with external events.

The most numinous recent examples have involved repeated encounters with a great egret (see avatar), which I have seen locally perhaps more than 2 dozen times now. Unlike other egrets, "she" (can't sex them tho) tends to hang around on dry land, not water, where she hunts lizards with a head wiggle, and is very approachable. 4-5 of these encounters happened in very peculiar circumstances.

But to do her full justice I would have to relate a bunch of other information, which is all interrelated with my path and life, and I'm not sure how to do that in the format of this forum-IF I should do it in the first place. But I will relate the most numinous of them here, matter of factly:

    1. Dec 2012. I had already seen her twice in the last week, in the parking lots of a restaurant I frequent and my work place. I was heading out to go have dinner with my two mothers in point of fact (I'm adopted), and one of my favorite songs, "As You Will", by my favorite band, Australia's The Church, came on as I pulled out of my parking spot.

As I got to the exit from my apartment complex, out of the corner of my eye I see this white shape approaching my car. She lands right in front of my vehicle, looks in at me through the windshield as she walks around my car to the right, where she grabs a lizard from the stop sign.

    Lyrics:

Summer rain falls, head for some shelter, close to a wall
See the lady dressed in chance-you try to help her, she heeds your call
    On the way to paradise

Find a hidden door that leads to a garden, and venture through
Sunshine's bright, a witness to pardon the world that you knew
    On the way to paradise

    Ornamental
    Or warm and gentle
    On the way to paradise
    Ornamental
    Or warm and gentle
    On the way to paradise
    As you will some day

Egrets of course are well-known for their ornamental breeding plumes...

    2. I see her off and on near my apartment for the next month or so. My adoptive mother has a condo at the beach, 8 miles away. I am eating lunch at a diner across the street one day, when I see a great egret land in the garden right outside the window.

But that was just the warmup. One day about a month later I am done with some shopping and about to go home. But then I get what I term "The Call"-as some upthread have said it, an unworded thought or suggestion, one which I have heeded a number of times over the years, and when I do it usually leads to something wonderful.

The Call to go to my old house on the river, 25 miles inland, where I (among many other things) had a close encounter with a peregrine falcon which got me started on all of this in the first place.

I arrive, and see a great egret in the shallows below the seawall. No biggie, seen them there a number of times. But then instead of hunting in the water for minnows or frogs, she instead stabs at something on an overhanging tree branch. Then flies up on the seawall, wiggles her head, and yes grabs a lizard.

I was so boggled that I couldn't at first believe that it could be the same bird. But apparently it was.

    3. I do go for almost a solid year without seeing her, but then I get the Call one day this past fall (driving to the condo at the beach again) to take a route I usually don't take. And there she is on the sidewalk near a pond wiggling her head as she walks down the side of the road.

Seen her 4 times since then, last time 2 weeks ago back inland in a construction site along the road.

Like I said, there is a lot more to tell here to do it all full justice, which must alas remain confidential. All I will say is that yes it apparently involves a woman...

Anyone else want to join K9's dream experiment? Looks like it's going to be fun.

Thanks for sharing your story Elessar. It's very interesting. I'm sure you have heard the legend involving many Native Americans believing that their spirt guides appeared to them as certain animals. Perhaps your "spirt guide" is that egret? Take it for what's it worth, but I find the folklore regarding spirt animals in the Native American culture interesting.

I was thinking about doing this. However, I haven't been able to remember my dreams enough to participate in this experiment I'm afraid. I blame that on the added stress I've been experiencing as of late.

Not mine, exactly-and the matching myth in question is from a different culture...

I will also note that your handle provides yet another eerie synch to the events/connection here.

I will PM people if they really want to hear the whole thing.

To keep this thread going, I wanted to share with you my experience with the physic medium Saturday. First ... I think he was the read deal. However, I was greatly disappointed with my experience personally. One of the problems that there were a relatively large number of people in my brother-in-law's house. I would say about twenty people total. The curious thing is that the group were all women with the exception of myself, my brother-in-law, and the medium. It is strange that women seem to be more attracted to this sort of thing than men ... at least from this experience. Anyway, I think the medium was a little overwhelmed with the number of spirits he had to sort out.

First me: The medium tried to give everyone in the room a communication experience which I think was his first mistake. Perhaps, he had a little too much pressure. I think if he allowed to let things happen more naturally ... it would be a better experience even though not everyone will get to participate. And I wouldn't have to be one of them in this case. As the medium approached me, because apparently it was my turn, I could already see he was going to struggle straight away. I could see he wasn't picking up any spirits that wanted to communicate with me. So he asked me if there was someone I wanted to communicate with. I told him my grandmother and told him her name. The medium picked up someone who was clearly not my grandmother and was probably picking up my wife's grandmother (my wife was sitting next to me). Not to go into any details, but the things he told me had nothing to do with my grandmother and seem somewhat foreign to me. However, my wife recognized that it COULD be her grandmother but neither one of us was completely sure. So, we chalked that off as a miss. I felt very disappointed as I could have really use some encouragement from my grandmother as well as hopefully explaining the lucid dream I had with her soon after she passed.

Second my brother-in-law and my wife: My wife's and her brother's Mom died when my wife was only 9 years old and her brother was only an infant. As the medium approached my brother-in-law (and my wife was nearby and was also able to communicate with the medium as well), he picked up their mother right away. Now ... up until this point ... I wasn't really sure about this medium because of my experience. However, the details he told regarding my wife's and her brother's mom was very accurate. I won't going into the details with the exception of this one thing that really stood out to my wife. The medium stated that "he smelled grapes!" When he said that ... my wife broke down a little and started nodding her head. He stated again ... "Why am I smelling grapes??" And my wife replied ... "As Mom was in the hospital suffering from cancer (that was already established), she couldn't eat anything but she still had a taste for grape Kool-Ade. In the hospital ... I would make her grape Kool-Ade and that was the last thing she really ingested, enjoyed, and could actually keep down before she died." The medium could never make that detail up. Even if I tried ... I could never find a way to debunk that. This convinced me that he was the real deal and that he was indeed communicating with my wife's mother.

So, overall ... it was a positive experience. And I'm thinking about having a personal reading with this same medium. I think I may have better results if it is just me in the room.

I'm not sure whether we are supposed to make observations here. If not let me know and I will delete this post.

I hope you will forgive my asking but why would grapes in a hospital be good evidence Morning Fog? I'd say it's quite a common thing, here in the UK anyway.

It's a good idea to give a medium zero information and let them tell you things. Even if the medium is genuine, it is possible to spoil evidence by telling them things that later they may appear to have extrapolated or fed back to you.

Of course make observations. That's why I posted it.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. In the hospital ... my wife's mom (mum) drank Grape Kool-Aid because it was simply the only thing she could ingest without throwing up. She was that sick. She also loved grape popsicles. She loved them even before she got sick but ... at her last days ... that was pretty much all she could stomach. That was over thirty years ago.

So, back to Saturday, the only person in the room that knew that story about the grape Kool-Aid was my wife. She never even told me. She wasn't even thinking about it at that time, so I can eliminate clairvoyance. So, out of the blue ... the medium stated he smelled grapes. It was completely random. And when the medium said that ... "I'm smelling grapes!" ... "Why am I smelling grapes?" the entire room looked confused (including me). Only my wife picked up on that and started to weep and then proceeded to tell him that story in the hospital thirty years ago. Again ... the medium mentioned the grape smell BEFORE my wife told him that story ... not after. So, the medium had zero information regarding the hospital story as he starting smelling grapes.

Also, I wanted to mention that there were no grapes or anything grape flavored served at this "medium party". I also wanted to mention that grape Kool-aid has a very strong grape smell. The artificial grape smell is much stronger than even actual grapes (including Concord). And the last thing I wanted to add is that this medium typically don't experience smells that much but usually only visual clues of the diseased. So, that was a sort of a rare experience for him but still not completely unheard of.

Sorry if I wasn't clear the first time Obiwan. Let me know if I had missed something as I sincerely want to know what happened but as it stands right now I believe that my wife's mom did show up to communicate. I was an open minded skeptic before.

Thanks Morning Fog. I ask because the medium only mentioned grapes, which are common in hospitals. It looked to me like you made the connection with Kool Aid, not the medium. If I read your report correctly you'd already mentioned this person had passed away and also her name.

I can see that grapes were particularly relevant for your wife's mum, and the mention of grapes would be significant to you but it seems to me that it may be you making the connection with the grape-smell, not the medium, particularly given the connection in most people's minds between hospitals and grapes.

I'm not sure grapes even have much of a particular smell though I am sure the Kool Aid did. In that sense maybe it is more evidential because the smell was mentioned and that's what you recall.

I'm anxious not to look like I am trying pour cold water on your experience or to diminish it. If you're satisfied that it was evidential then that's good enough for you. There may be other things in your experience with the medium that make you inclined to believe they were demonstrating communication with your mother-in-law.

I'm not intending any criticsm of your judgement but speaking from my own perspective, it has taken quite a bit of time for me to get to the stage where I think I can usually critically assess what mediums are offering as evidence.

Incidentally, clairvoyance would probably be used to describe a genuine communication, I think what you were mentioning could be ruled out was telepathy.

No problem Obiwan. I appreciate your reasonable questioning as you don't seem to be dismissing it out of hand. There are other things that are worth mentioning but I'm little short on time as of right now. I have another particular example, from that reading, in mind that is also pretty convincing that I'll try to share later.

But as to your last statement. Yes. I feel like I could rule out telepathy because my wife claims that she was not even thinking about the Kool-Aid story until the medium mentioned the grape smell. Noticed that I said the medium said "grape smell" not grapes specifically. So, I have no choice but to believe her, because for one, I have to live with her. :)

Anyway, I would like to question as to what difference does it really make whether they serve grapes in the hospitals or not? I don't have a lot of hospital experience here in the U.S. And I haven't seen that the nurses serve grapes exclusively from my limited experience. I'm sure they do however. I sincerely would like to know how serving grapes in the hospitals will make a difference whether this visitation from my mother-in-law true or not? I really appreciate your view as this is my first experience with any sort of physic and I could be missing something. It's okay. I can take it. :)

I told the others, might as well the broad public.

I've seen Egret Gal again these last two days, 2nd time just half an hour ago, both times outside my apartment complex.

She must have eaten a dozen lizards yesterday (3 today as I watched). Yesterday she walked within 5 feet me, as if I wasn't even there.

And both times this Sisters of Mercy song had just played on my music player:

Now, my eyeballs are around here somewhere, durn it....

Thanks Morning Fog. I certainly wouldn't dismiss the medium or your assessment of the information. It's just the quality and content of the message I am neutral about.

I mentioned the grapes only because they are very often taken as gifts for people (don't ask me why :)) who are sick. So it's highly likely grapes would be present. So knowing grapes was connected with someone ill wouldn't be particularly special or hard to predict. That's why I'd say it may not be particularly evidential, as it could be simply coincidental. Also, they don't really have much of a smell usually as far as my own experience is concerned (grapes, not mediums :)).

I think if the medium had mentioned Kool Aid or that your MIL was only able to manage grape juice at the end, that would have been perhaps more evidential.

I think what you may be doing, and it's perfectly natural, is finding a connection with what the medium said and interpreting it as being connected with your MIL. This is not an unusual thing to to, it's very human, but it can lead to making more of what the medium has actually said than is perhaps reasonable.

It may well be the medium had a connection with your MIL but I think they need to be able to do a lot more than simply mention a couple of words and expect you to make the connection. It's not a very good example of what mediums should be able to communicate IMHO.

You mention you're somewhat new to this field, so you might find it helpful to read about some good examples of mediumship to set your expectations appropriately. I think a good medium should be able to do much better than this for you. There are many examples of mediumship with astounding evidence if the people reporting it are to be believed.

Good mediums will not ask for information, and certainly wouldn't ask who you'd like to connect with. If anything they will positively deter you from offering anything other than 'yes' and 'no' to pieces of information they give you and they should not be asking questions other than whether you understand what they have said.

I think sometimes it's not really deliberate cold-reading but poor technique.
