I just saw this on the news. Someone this morning captured on video some kind of very large animal/fish in Pohenegamook Lake, in eastern Quebec near the U.S. state of Maine, which has a legendary monster, Ponik.

The footage was taken this morning and posted by that person on Facebook here. Observers are saying it's likely a sturgeon, but it looks huge!

There's a 1977 news clip of the supposed sited creature posted here, but I can't view it because it requires old plugins:

I found this videoclip posted yesterday (26).

It had some info in French added, and since I cant read French I used google-translate and got this;
"A true phenomenon on the web, the video showing the legendary lake monster Pohénégamook Ponik, proves a marketing move. The leaders of the City of Pohénégamook orchestrated all with the help of the design Tactic agency to promote the new image of the city. Ponik now becomes the new landmark of Pohénégamook."

"Véritable phénomène sur le web, la vidéo montrant le monstre légendaire du lac Pohénégamook, Ponik, s'avère un coup de marketing. Les dirigeants de la Ville de Pohénégamook ont orchestré le tout avec l'aide de l'agence Tactic design pour promouvoir la nouvelle image de marque de la ville. Ponik devient désormais le nouvel emblème de Pohénégamook."

It seems, as they say, that this was a staged and fabricated "sighting". Maybe someone here reads French and can translate it better.

I cant find any more info in english about a resent sighting in Pohénégamook , and the Facebook-link you posted is dead. Maybe this clip isn't the one you are referring to, but I cant find any other from Pohénégamook.

PS: I found these links though, and it seems that this clip was a marketing-stunt for the town. http://www.msn.com/fr-ca/actualites...-de-pohénégamook-coup-de-marketing/ar-BBkg9mi

Googletranslate;
"The viral video showing what appears to be a massive fish make an appearance in the Pohénégamook Lake proves a publicity stunt to promote the new brand image of the City of Pohénégamook. The legend of the lake, called Ponik, now becomes the new landmark of the city, announced this morning the director general of the municipality, Marie-Claude Pinet.Posted on Facebook last Saturday, the video sparked a craze on social networks and raised over 150 000 views."The goal of this advertising campaign was to generate interest around the legend of Ponik in connection with the launch of the new city's image," says Marie-Claude Pinet in a statement.For nearly 150 years, the legend of Ponik "attracts the media and fans the hunt monster," she says.The excitement that has created the video on the web late last week shows that Pohénégamook is "much more than a legend," according to Ms. Pinet.The user Jean-Carol Fournier, which aired the video on his Facebook account, lent himself to the game. "I think so at Pohénégamook development potential when the initiators of the project have challenged me, I could not refuse this proposal, "he says.This marketing move is part of a strategy that prepares the city for one year in order to "better position in terms of attractive tourist environment, promote economic growth and generate a sense of belonging and pride among citizens. "

It was a pretty good video-clip though - regardless. :)

Thanks for this Pollux.

And yes the facebook video is the one you posted.

The article doesn't explain how it was staged, but that it was, and the google translation is pretty accurate.

Which likely means it wasn't a huge sturgeon (a little "miracle" in itself), but probably some fake monster set-up.

Yeah, but it could very well have been a sturgeon-sighting. They can get pretty big, so it wouldn't have been an impossible sighting per se.
