Reasons for banning individuals

I think you misunderstood me, Tarquin. :)

I was asking about this thread, which has gone very off-topic from the subject of announcing bans. Is it OK to move all the off-topic posts to a new thread so the conversation can continue without diverting this thread any further?

Ah yes. I see. Well I think if we keep going like this then bans might be on the table so maybe we're going to come full-circle and be back on-topic again?!

What do folks think about splitting the Fortean Times / Islamic extremism posts off into a new, separate thread? In particular, does anybody object?
I think I'd just as soon end the discussion about Islamic extremism - we have quite a few of those scattered about on the forum - so let's get back to the Fortean Times! Alternative split off the Islamic extremism stuff and leave the other stuff right here. However, I suspect it isn't a good idea to too keen on thread splicing

Tarquin, please don't go and get yourself banned. More than the fact that I agree with much of what you say, I just get a smile out of looking at your avatar and username (and if that is your real name then congratulations: it is wonderful). I can't help but smile when I see a picture of Terry-Thomas: one of those rare people who have always made me laugh.

Thanks! ;) Actually is my real name lol!

Well, I ended up taking the initiative and moving all of the off-topic posts to a new thread in the "Other Stuff" forum: The alt-right and its victory over the Fortean times; PC speech; Islamic extremism.

Per David's suggestion, have split these in two, see post #120.

Ah. Please let me know which ones, perhaps by PM so as not to clutter this thread.
Page 3 - my pleading with Tarquin not to get himself banned and his response. Light-hearted, not the heavy stuff of Islamic extremism, etc.

You or I can delete these after the move.

I guess I thought you were going to make two new threads - one on the Fortean Times, and one on Islamic extremism ;)

David
Was considering it, will go ahead unless anybody raises any concerns in, say, the next ten minutes (I know, that's not going to break the record for the longest period for a consultative democratic decision!).

I didn't even bother with that thread because the title suggested a very narrow POV. The sad fact of the matter is, almost any place one can go to try and talk about spiritual/mystical experiences will expose an experiencer to someone trying to co-opt such experiences to justify their particular belief system. There are religions, cults, and new-age groups all waiting in the wings hoping to bring you into the fold and turn you into a spokesperson for whatever it is they are selling. I've yet to find an experiencer group where that didn't happen, and I've looked.
I'm curious, and maybe it belongs in another thread, but have you ever gone deeper into what you feel the NDE is saying about the nature of reality?

It probably does belong in another thread, but I've basically just tried to do my best to make observations and take notes without getting too far into an interpretation. I've always felt bombarded with "answers" and interpretations from all sides... and none of them really seemed to fit. So I'm not in a hurry to make a judgement; it's taken me this long just to be OK with the experience. I'm not sure it needs an explanation. It just needs to be experienced.
