83-year old Russell Targ reminisces about his early years in parapsychology. Lots of little-known historical tidbits in this interview with Jeffrey Mishlove.
Here he describes the process that led to his engagement with the field of parapsychology. During his childhood he was fascinated by stage magic. As a teenager he became familiar with the card-guessing ESP experiments of J.B. Rhine. Later, as a physicist, he began to build equipment for the purpose of testing and training both ESP and psychokinesis. Eventually, his work came to the attention of NASA.
Stafford Betty in a fascinating interview about instrumental trans-communication:
Here he notes that electronic communication between the living and the deceased stands as an alternative to mediumistic communication. He reviews the history of Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) and Instrumental Transcommunication (ITC), and provides examples of credible cases. He points out that there are thousands of individuals today who are experimenting in this arena. Nevertheless, as of now, the evidentiality of ITC for survival of consciousness is weaker than it is for other lines of inquiry such as near-death experience and mediumship.
“Sensing Contact with the Dead: A Common Experience.” Professor Sylvia Hart Wright, afterlife researcher and the author of When Spirits Come Calling: The Open-Minded Skeptic’s Guide to After-Death Contacts, presented the talk. She became interested in studying the afterlife after she was widowed in 1983, when she claimed to begin sensing the presence of her late husband. Her talk includes a number of the experiences she has collected over the years. A lively question and answer period followed the talk. Professor Wright formerly headed the library at the City University of New York’s School of Architecture and Environmental Studies and left her position at the City University of New York in 1991 to devote herself full time to afterlife research.
