Dr. Jeffrey Kripal Explores the Erotic in the Mystical & Religious |369|

I find it interesting that NDEs and UFO experiences tend to have many of the same after-effects, but it's much more acceptable to report a frightening UFO abduction than a frightening NDE. On the other hand, people tend to be much less open to the idea of positive UFO experiences... some of which are connected with anomalous healing and angelic beings, and they sound very much like blissful NDEs.

Theres a lot of cross referencing that can be done with much of this phenomenon. As another example to what you just mentioned, people often report that UFOs will travel at a great speed, only to defy physics and cut a 90 degree turn without slowing down. This is also (fairly commonly) reported in cryptid sightings when these "animals" are moving rapidly. Taking one example, a man (a seemingly very credible one who I saw on video), saw a "wolfman-like" creature running alongside the road in the same direction that his car was going and he stated it had to be moving at least 70mph, then it cut a perfect right angle right in front of him and crossed the road at the same speed. Its an unlikely thing to make up because its ridiculous. But it does match other similar reports and many UFO accounts.

Many people feel this tangible fear and dread that they cannot explain when they come across scary cryptids, and they state that the fear and feeling of evil is something on a level that they did not know existed, this is also mirrored in reports of demonic infestation/encounter. Sort of like NDE'rs describing a level of love that they did not know existed, so too does this tangible fear and evil manifest itself when these cryptids are encountered on a level which the experiencer did not know existed. Which is interesting, because nobody ever sees a bear or Tiger and goes "that creature is evil and it plants a sense of evil in my mind."

People are less likely to report this sense of evil with Aliens, though the aliens do come off as cold hearted in many of the reports. But every now and then, somebody reports feeling immense love from the aliens, and when they describe this love, they sound like people describing an NDE.

Aliens also communicate through telepathy, so do spirits in the NDE realm, and people often report that these cryptids can sometimes communicate through telepathy also. Ive actually started keeping track of cross similarities between these type of phenomenon that I come across.

So what the hell is going on? Truth is indeed stranger than fiction in our reality. The things in the stories we invent are not as weird as the everyday experiences of people on this planet.

... And help change the bullshit parts of their “culture” when it botches basic humans rights.
totally agree.

this seems related to the "is there a hierarchy to consciousness" question I was bugging Jeff Kripal about? (i.e. is there right and wrong) I think the data clearly suggests there is. I mean, come on, we know FMG is a horror bred by ignorance and misogyny. the "cultural" nonsense is the coverstory used by atheist/humanist nitwits.

You've been in contact with him in the past, so whatever email address you have is one that he responds to. Unless you share that address with me, what more can I do?

For me personally, the lack of response suggests that my concerns about Dr Long's work are probably justified. There are researchers doing much more credible work, so that is where I'll place my time and attention.
I'm pretty sure I've just used his public email.

interesting... glad yr doing that.

I've been thinking about this from a technology perspective lately. if ET has the technology to move in and out of these realms of consciousness then maybe all bets are off in terms of reports/perceptions. the opportunity for deception/misinformation within these realms is limitless.

good point. thx for reminding.

One in six, eh... Not meaning any harm by this suggestion, but could there be as much as one in six sort of rotten people in this world at any one time? ...just figurin'
Well, I dont think its necassarily true that only bad people have bad NDE's and only good people have bad NDE's. There may be SOME truth to it (ie-maybe

It does seem like with UFOs, cryptids, spirits etc, part of their goal, at least some of the time, is to really screw with us. This is probably more so true of forces not friendly to our soul of course. It seems the sole purpose, to me, for something to cut a Perfect right angle when running at a high speed or flying at a high speed (for example) is to suggest to us, “be freaked out; what you are seeing is abnormal and doesn’t fit your perception of reality.”

everyone knows that already about American baby boys

Thank you, I am pretty damn cute.

But this is nonsense. Who is 'everyone'? So, according to you and the U.N. as long as the sexual mutilation against an innocent victim is safe, and profitable, then you focus your great attention on African girls? I don't know who you think you are fooling, but you are not fooling me. I am not a liberal with 'feels' on this situation. This is about control, not human rights, otherwise you would fight for the human rights of the millions of Western male children (not the few thousand of tribal girls) who are getting a needless surgery for 'fun and profit.'

Alex may not agree on quite my level of intensity or tenacity but I can guarantee he gets the bullshit politically correct atmosphere that foreigners know how to use against the overly liberals here.

The politically correct bullshit atmosphere is coming from you, right now, right here. You are looking to engender 'victims' of the '3rd' world and pretending you are saving the world when actually you are part of the problem. Get your focus back on your own people, whoever they may be, and stop playing god to the entire globe. Fix the problems in your own house, if you are such a great person, and stop virtue signaling, and playing the righteous savior. You don't know what those folks need, and if they're great leaders are laughing at me, the keyboard warrior, then they are as clueless as you are.

Yes, an opportunity for the first major lesson in in how to approach the world’s struggle with basic human rights— false equivalencies and letting the “perfect ruin the good”. This was certainly not intentional on your part but a major talking point for my seminars whereby a hint of grey gets to fog the obvious.

Forget chemo for the moment, as for one, being a medical provider, unless in North Korea, chemo patients around the world choose to continue (whether pushed by over eager doctors or families that’s a fair point) but at least the accession is there. No, we must be wise in hindsight seeing gross lack of vaccination, normal saline for simple dehydration pediatric deaths, lacks of cervical cancer screening watching young women needlessly die, the list goes on. Think big.

As for FGM, I always feel guilty publicly discussing this one because of my vast background where I’ve been and what I’ve done it’s not really a fair fight for the other person. The friendly easy way to put it simply is circumcision, will never ever ever ever amount to FGM and the long term problems it causes women on physical/emotional/social status levels in addition to 1 in 6 baby girls dying from septic infection. Show me the last time a baby boy died of sepsis from circumcision in the US in the last couple years (you won’t).

Let me enlighten with my next point for my friends interested in “culture vs. Human right issues” in third world.... there is none. Culture counts for shit when Dealing with the basic universal human rights aforementioned. This is where I appreciate a guy like Alex when dealing with being a humanitarian accepting people of all background but not tolerating the bullshit. Of course when I’m in the Middle East if in some backass rural area “stoning women” was just part of the old Sharia way. It’s not that I have a problem with decent Muslim people I know, it’s that I’m not retarded in this bullshit politically correct ‘walk on eggshells’ climate we created. And the very worst part is these local indigenous leaders KNOW our bullshit politically correct culture and use it against us quite intelligently.

I thank whatever Creator that does exist that my own team’s work with local indigenous leaders, either by manipulation or genuine reasoning, helps stop the practice/ideology of FGM and push the other common sense basic human rights. In fact, I feel God doing a cartwheel every time I get it done.

Sorry not to be harsh, but it’s better to set the record straight with course corrections early on so we all at least head in the right direction even if veering off a little bit. The reason I reference Alex is because I know how he thinks given his interviews and posts and while I’m not exactly where he’s at and he’s not exactly where I’m at and there a some differences, what matters is we’re both headed in generally the right direction.

John

Good for you man. Nice to see people who care. Help whomever you want to help. If you are happy helping to put a stop to the systematic torture of peoples in a far away land (and your intentions are pure and non-financial), then fantastic.

Now you’re really gonna hate me if you weren’t already with people across this forum laughing / in awe of you still being so thick and sorry but even dumb to compare US male circumcision (which yes, you are right is unique to us and a big business, BUT THE BABY BOYS ARE NOT DYING) to FMG in Africa which honey is far more than a few thousand girls. This is why some people in the US on both the left (or the right) are made fun and laughed at across Europe and even some Third Worlds.

Let’s “break in down Barney style” as my buddies say in the Marines.
US circumcision baby boys = no dead
African FMG baby girls = some dead

You may actually be getting the best of me just trolling because either a) you were never in the Peace Corps to be able to say such a stupid goddamn thing and understand this basic factual difference

or b) you were in the Peace Corps but due to the God-given IQ, you need to get any and all money that program cost you in loss of other opportunities because you certainly learned nothing about human rights

Or c) a clever troll who spits on FMG but also getting the best of someone much smarter than you, which I would actually applaud you for

You’ll hate me because, unfortunately for you, in addition to my own small medical team overseas, i also manage to contribute to “my country’s” problems running a very successful US sports 501c3 running off only volunteer hours in the East coast program sharing free mentor-based curriculum in schools and after schools done during gym class by the schools own gym teachers, handed out completely for free, with class discussions based on anti drug, anti-violence, And most importantly teaching high school kids how to seek out a debate or intricate conversation (just like the ones on Skeptiko) and root their argument based in facts. Not feelings

I’m sorry my program never made in time for you, both there’s good news. My team is teaching kids black and white, rich and poor, local and immigrant, to treat each other with respect, talk about their problems and most importantly, when they find a cause they care about, to approach it from all sides based on facts and evidence and then work like a dog to change it, and learning how to either re-direct or go right through the people in their way who ignore hard facts. And that most people on an issue like you are on the sidelines whether you agre or not for something like this, because at the end of the day you have no actual power or influence, just a keyboard!

And FYI, those indigenous folks I work with in Africa and Latin America ARE my people. They’ed take a bullet for me as I would for them. What makes me a better member of the human race is not my academic success or businesses I run, it’s just grit and heart and the fact that I can honestly say I gave a damn. It’s not too late for you to evolve and jump on board.

John

That's the UN, corrupt along with everything else. There are scores of such reports and I know of some personally from local women I worked with.

My current viewpoints are based squarely in my PC experience and my Master's thesis, written about Muslim women writers in West Africa, including FGM.

If I have no power or influence, just a keyboard, why do you take so much time out of your busy savior business to entertain my folly?

Where is your website and conference recordings? If you have so much knowledge to share, that would be a good start. Even I have one, with followers even! Go figure!

You're being irritatingly and willfully ignorant now, I have already posted a source that confirms many baby boys do indeed die every year from circumcision.

I'm not interested in the rest of the discussion but I don't know why you believe this when you claim to be knowledgeable.

What does the UN having corruption have to do with the peace corp.?
Would you be opposed to westerners donating to native groups working to change FGM?

I’m dumbfounded here as well. It seems a strange choice of battles to go at somebody dedicating so much of their time to helping people. Skeptiko (the poster) has come off condescending and maybe a little personal towards her, but the point about helping people in Africa, no offense Mishelle, I’m sure you’re a great lady and you’re clearly intelligent, but you sound off your rocker on this one to me.

As I understand it, this is not just a question of counting deaths. FGM wrecks a woman's sexlife, and some women have written accounts about how they found it hard to pee until they found a western doctor to fix them up a bit.

Thanks for your questions before considering me too 'off my rocker' to have a marginally informed opinion.

The UN works with all the international agencies, NGO is in name only, everything now is a public-private partnership. If you want to know where the money is, just follow where your friends are getting their contract jobs. Africa and Antarctica are huge right now, the money is pumping in. If you really want to understand how the global system works, you need to understand 'disaster capitalism'. Making victims is a huge part of the profit margin. In fact, if you talk to educated African women and men directly they know exactly what is going on, and it's like everywhere else in the world, pay to play. Corrupt to the f'ing core.

I am not at all concerned who else calls me crazy, off my rocker, a conspiracy theorist, Borderline, blah, blah, blah. I've been hearing this for a decade now, yet look all that's coming to light. Don't trust me. Don't believe me. Just watch and research for yourself, the info is everywhere! Y'all have some serious blinders on!

I for one am utterly confused - what exactly is the argument here?

David

Comparing apples to oranges my friend the numbers do not even begin to match up, and I was always referring chiefly to US circumcision deaths. For me or any other medical provider arguing specifically US baby boy deaths, while rare and few, you will never get anyone in the medical establishment to acknowledge comparing our US practice with a bizarre 200 headcount roughly per year in the nation with hundreds of thousands of baby girls killed from secondary infections in the third world where it’s done with no aseptic technique. Of course in back ass parts of Eastern Europe if 1in 6 baby boys risked death from the procedure I would stand right by your side bashing their country and practice too.

This forums reminding me of why I should be so scared about US public education holy shit!

David, the argument is: Is it for the Western doctor to fix them up a bit so that they can pee an adequate prerogative to assign UN envoys to eradicate the 'epidemic of . . .' name that epidemic, b/c there are so many that FGM only tips the scale.

My point was simply in alignment with Skeptiko001, a point I've grown accustomed to over many years of pointing out the obvious. Call me crazy, and I will tell you, fine, b/c it SUCKS to be right.

I echo David on this one. I can own up to being condescending on this unusual thread that seems to spiral out of control, but my final point on why I even bother to respond is this:

I hope Alex catches this post. I generally love Skeptiko forums I’ve read for quite some time. And respect folks for digging in to hard and sometimes sensitive spiritual / metaphysical issues while the rest watch the Kardashians. You ALL have my respect on that

I think you guys are the groups of people that should be talking to youth as I do and even local folks in public policy, and yes I think it is worth spending some of my time on keyboard to help push people in a forward thinking direction where Alex has mentioned maybe there is a “right” vs “wrong” answer on tough issues, regardless of your political ideas.

Recognizing in fully industrialized countries like US where literally a couple hundred baby boys do die (very rarely) for circumcision is lousy and horrible. I’ve said this a million goddamn times. But out of respect for the female race in discussing FMG please NEVER compare the scope of problem to FMG escalating to tens of thousands of deaths not too mention permanent sexual dysfunction — obviously the two could never compare.

Just don’t make false equivalencies in making fact based arguments. To bring it to light, it reminds me of Minnie Driver (girl from Good Will Hunting) actually have the assholiness to say that a woman receiving explicit photos texted on her phone from some creep guy is the SAME experience as a woman actually raped. Holy shit, if this goes on, we’ve lost everything in this country. Thank God Bill Maher came back on HBO this weekend and ripped her a new one. I’ve worked with multiple rape victims in my medical clinic and the stories they tell me bring tears to my eyes, and here that bitch Minnie Driver have a growing following of libtards retweeting “it’s all the same”

Male circumcision = bad and unnecessary with very rare morbidity mortality in developed countries
Female FMG = tens of thousands and more dead, horrific disgusting very dangerous criminal insidious

I do have to get back to my actual work for my next teams trip out to Uganda where we address lost of East African issues But I promise everyone here for brain dead human rights abuses like FMG, every educated local African official has been all over it agreeing its outrageousness and insanity for the level of crisis it is

And FYI folks, I’ve never worked with UN, large NGOs Or foreign military. Our team is self funded working with indigenous leaders, sometimes friendly but sometimes sternly when it comes to BS like FMG.

Just honor basic human rights, acknowledge the facts and help bring out the change, it’s a lot of work but really not that complicated on stuff like FMG, starvation, genocide, mass rape, epidemics.... it’s kind of like, commonsense.
