---Introduce yourself---

Don't forget - if you are responding to someone else's remark, it is best to quote them - as I just have - it makes what you write a lot clearer.

You can do this in any of three ways.

1) Press the 'Reply' button at bottom right of a post you wish to reply to.

2) Select a section of someone else's post, and a little 'reply' menu will appear as you let go of the mouse. Hit that button and you will just get that section of what was written in your reply.

3) If you examine the structure of a quoted reply, you will see that the quotes have a very simple structure, so you can roll your own method more or less.

David

Ah, gotcha. Thanks ;;/?

Introducing myself is like using my fingers to pick up a mercury bead, so thanks for your forbearance(s). I experienced a two-year UFO contact initiation spanning 2008-2009. It was awesome. An autobiographical monologue is a bit much, but I swear on Shakespeare's grave I am not a time-traveling intergalactic super-soldier, so maybe that will count for something. Hope springs eternal.

Welcome Steven, and thanks for the intro.

I have not visited this page until yesterday. I suppose I should have long ago put something down - so here goes - belatedly.

My family migrated from Northern Ireland in the mid 50s to Australia. I was born in Northern Ireland but grew up in western and central Victoria and Tasmania, where I was a passionate bushwalker through my teens. I have had paranormal experiences since I was around age 4. Nothing consistent and often wild. My family was Protestant - my father joined the Orange Lodge and the Apprentice Boys in Australia. His passion turned me against Christianity. But I was living a life full of supernatural things - and with a love of science.

I have been a public servant most of my working life - in federal and state departments (5 of each). I have worked in cities (Hobart and sydney mostly), but most of my working experiences have been in regional areas. Since 2001 I have lived in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney in roles that have focused into Syndey and out west (associated with disability services).

I have trained in western magic and Wicca. I have Masters (2000) and Masters Honours (2010) degrees in Social Ecology. I read in metaphysics, religion, psychology, philosophy, history, anthropology, sociology, archaeology, management theory and practice and anything else that catches my interest. I am struggling to understand what religion is - and I need this stuff to help me.

I call myself an aspiring animist (hence my often neglected blog -aspiringanimist.com). I want to be animistic in my awareness, and I try, but I know I am deeply conditioned by my culture which has merged Christianity, atheism and materialism into an awful melange of confused sentiments and thought. That's why I read/listen to books and catch podcasts - an exercise in 'de-educating' myself from the multiple errors I was induced to believe in my education and cultural conditioning.

This is my passion. I grew up having experiences that confirmed me as mad (science) or bad (religion) and I knew I was neither. What is the real nature of religion - and hence our reality?

In April 2008 I came down with GBS (google it please). That left me paralysed for 3 months on a respirator in ICU and 7 months on a rehab ward (note for American readers - that cost me $35 a week for 7 months for access to television - I have still got my house and I am not in debt because of the hospital care). I have residual disability that has forced me to see life in a different way. This has added a profound spiritual, psychological and philosophical dimension to my life.

Welcome Michael,

The journey of the shaman is the journey of the heart. Well walked. In your writings I could sense this sort of earned wisdom.

A friend of mine was paralyzed with Guillain-Barré syndrome after the flu shot back in 2010. She has slowly recovered over the years. Lost her job & home, but did not lose her family thankfully.

I will describe my walk journey here as well at some point.

That's interesting. I had heard that the claim a flu shot could cause GBS or cause a relapse had been debunked. But I have never trusted that claim and never had a flu shot. The impact of GBS seems to depend on many things. Some folk recover completely. One of my sisters contacted me about the mother of a friend who contracted GBS. She had been in ICU 6 months and had managed only to move her eyes. She was 66 and the hospital was wanting to move her into a nursing home. That had been tried on me not long after I entered a rehab ward. My family put a stop to that and I was back a work full a little over a year later. But I had to tell my sister that I thought her friend's mum was genuinely doomed and that a nursing home was probably the best option. Learning to move again and regain motor control is hard, and age is a factor after being inactive for so long.

Oh, and my bank suspended mortgage payments, rather than try to foreclose. I had enough leave to cover the mortgage for all but the last 5 months. That's what a business should be like.

Yeah, it is a risk for both the flu itself and the flu vaccine. This from Haber-DeStefano 2004, the CDC guidance in the US and The Lancet 2010 Study.

Guillain-Barre syndrome remains the most frequent neurological condition reported after influenza vaccination to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) since its inception in 1990.
On very rare occasions, they may develop GBS in the days or weeks after getting a vaccination.
Some cases may be triggered by the influenza virus and potentially influenza vaccine. An increased incidence of Guillain–Barré syndrome followed influenza immunization that followed the 1976 swine flu outbreak (H1N1 A/NJ/76); 8.8 cases per million recipients developed the complication. Since then, close monitoring of cases attributable to vaccination has demonstrated that influenza itself can induce GBS.

Hello,
When I registered yesterday, Alex asked me to give some background about myself. I wrote him a direct reply, nothing happened, which made me wonder whether I misunderstood his request. I guess I should have posted the background he asked me for here.
Ok ...
I am German, based in Germany, making my living as a teacher and health professional.
My academic and professional background includes an M.A. in linguistics / psychology, an MBA (US-German), and being trained and occupied as a journalist / editor for several years (cutting that short here).
I am a mother of a son.
During the past 15 years, my life has taken strange and unexpected turns.
Practically nothing of importance turned out to be what I had been told or what I had assumed previously.
To begin with, I contracted a chronic condition that put me in an awkward strategic position in this world.
Sometime after the onset of that condition, I started experiencing things which are classified as "paranormal". As a consequence, I turned to remote viewing.
Several times I was drawn into frame-disrupting experiences with other individuals which made me reinterpret my life.
Now this chain of events is assuming a Gestalt that is unlike anything I ever heard or read about but I understand that there are people with whom I share some parts of the experience.
I made up my mind and registered in your forum because I got positively excited about some of the contributions I read. It is not easy to put into words what is on my mind but maybe this is the right place to try.

Welcome Dahlia,
It sounds as if you fit here pretty well. Some of us are here because of personal experiences, others, such as myself, have just followed the science of consciousness and evolution and come to realise that materialism simply has to be false.
There is, of course, a tremendous wealth of past podcasts for you to explore.

Don't worry about using a pseudonym - many people do (I rather wish I had) - it might make it easier for you to discuss a few of your experiences in more detail once you feel ready.

It's always a good idea to pay attention when to the evil people do almost as much as it's worth

Dear Michael,
I am not sure what you are thinking of here. Evil people? The evil? What made you think about evil? (True, I am trying to find out things about evil, but I didn't mention it.)

Intriguing. I have long asserted that I got GBS after coming down with Bronchitis on a day that the train I was on switched its for air con from cooling to heating. I felt crook within several hours of getting off the train and a few days later my GP order me to bed.

That theory waa laughed at.

G'day Dahlia

Welcome. I have just now scrolled up the page to discover your entry. I am intrigued by your chronic condition. I came down with GBS. It didn't deliver paranormal experiences - had enough of them before. But it did deliver profoundly transformative experiences.

Haven't seen you on the forum yet.

I believe you 100% on this Michael. Our problem as a medical culture is that we discount testimony just like this.

Part of the reason for my existence.
