Summer is Coming

Also, anything labeled as "global" is highly suspect of a full of shit factor.
Not only does the GW fanclub not see this. I'll bet my money the word "global" has been mkultra'd in to produce a tingly feeling. Tingly enough to blind them from noticing a global poverty actively on-setting as a result of a controlled economy collapse.

i.e: if the absurdity of the mere phrase "climate lockdowns" doesn't even give you pause, what will?

"Global Warming Bullshit"
Can you explain for me why:
1. The polar icecaps are melting and we can go through with sea faring vessels when we couldn't before?
2. The massive death of the sea just last week off of Vancouver?
3. Record forest fires worldwide?
4. Invasive animals- snakes, insects, etc.. that are NEVER in these northern climes somehow now making a home here?
5. The worst record of hurricane seasons?
6. The lack of cold weather where I live? We haven't had consistent snow in decades.
The thing about global warming isn't whether or not you have an ice storm, but the yearly collective heat of the planet. Is it going up or is it going down?
What exactly will it take to convince people of reality? I'm fascinated now.

Totally agree! Next thing you know, some other stupid "global" necessity will happen. This "global" warming thing is taken like some kind of scripture. It isn't any different than religious guilt. In affect, nobody can do anything about "global warming" because you have all supposedly contributed to it. Also, you have countless, self righteous assholes getting sold numerous products that supposedly remedy the situations, yet at the same time, use all the processes that facilitate the bullshit phenomenon. In other words, they still drive cars and utilize anything made of plastic. In the mean time, it is ignored that one volcanic explosion causes more "global warming" than all the fucking cars ever driven on earth!

Are these things that you see or is this nonsense that you are reading on media? Are you driving sea faring vessels? How many places have you traveled to to measure all this phenomenon? For the "record of forest fires," do you realize this bullshit is constantly reported on the media, regardless, for the last 50 years, minimum? Furthermore, invasive animals is the biggest of bullshit phenomenon ever reported. This entire narrative of invasive Burmese pythons eating all native life in Florida is absolute bullshit on its face. How do I know? I have been dealing with large constrictors for 30 plus years, and this consumption rate is impossible! You talk about the lack of cold weather, yet we have had the most extreme cold weather in the history of my state a few months back! Look brother, love you and your comments here, for sure.....but this "global warming" thing is bullshit for sure! It is just as much bullshit as the Covid-19 pandemic.

The science behind the study of climate change is complex, multifaceted and incredibly well developed and sophisticated at this stage of the game. The effects of human made climate change are often counter intuitive and play out over long time frames and so are not easily understood.
Natural forces are a contributing factor - of course, but what humans are doing is happening on top and putting the natural system out of whack in an entirely predictable way. So predictable that many scientists, while making encouraging noises about how we all can fix things, are realising we really can't and that we are fucked
If I was privy to all the info coming in from all the areas of research - from satellites to ice core drilling, and to the depressing conclusions being reached by the think tanks - that humans will never agree on implementing real change; I'd do the same as what has in fact already been decided on; keep the populace motivated by getting them to put their cans and bottles in wheelie bins and at the same time roll out a vaccine program.

LoL man! Vaccine program and climate change restrictions sound like a great idea!

Well so far the mighty ‘Shane The Thinker’ haven’t managed to present any counterarguments to the debate in this thread. Inspection of the outside temperature however reveals nothing unusual to report

Just the odd biblical flood and then drought/bush fire.

Not many read this thread so I think it's safe to report that I'm exited by the prospect of the world emptying out.
Touring ghost towns and graveyards has always been a thing with me.

Dying sounds like a buzz too. All win win from now on.

The mighty SBU and I might be the perfect candidates to tackle both, vaccines and climate change. Brother, please, let us go to the frozen tundra of Antarctica and get a nice big ice sample, then let us posit as many theories as possible, regarding the earth and its entire history, off of that cylindrical crystal pillar of time! I am down man! In the mean time, we will admit that all things are multifaceted, and complex, as you mentioned. Nevertheless, you can take this hair shirt stance that "mankind is completely responsible for all the bad weather on earth, because he is a bad, bad thing, and we can only fruitlessly recycle a few bottles here and there to get our good guy badges. Nevertheless, all is doomed."

I am all in, man! Let's make this a project!

I would REALLY love to have no more news in this.
But it seems like it's going to be just worse and worse.

Thing is, I doubt we can really do anything about any climate change now that would justify the significant reduction in the quality of life to much of the western world unfortunately.

I was apparently reading that it was the around the 50's or some such period that things could have been 'changed' to avert what is supposedly coming now.

Which is why I'm worried about what else is gonna come from authorities to 'combat' the problem. From my limited understanding, if China is still the major polluter at something like 25%, and the UK is 1% (aprox), then doing our bit is fine, but if that happens to be some crazy green thing that changes our way of life, when China can just continue to be the major major polluters, then I'm gonna be a bit mifed!

I agree with you that global solutions are needed

I’m not british but I take an interest in british politics as I lived in the UK between 2007 and 2008.

I don’t think most mainstream leftists advocate for the UK (or any other European country) to take dramatic unilateral action that would destroy the economy and lower quality of life. But there are steps that everybody can do like reduce usage of non-recyclable plastic, waste sorting etc.

Lowering methane and carbondioxid concentration in the atmosphere back to the pre-industriel levels - or at least stabilize it at present levels, I certainly believe we need to do this if we don’t want Earth to prematurely turn into Venus and I wouldn’t be too surprised if China eventually becomes the frontrunner in this effort.

Labour in the UK at the minute are supposedly purging their far-left/radical element in an attempt to win back voters from the tories. They could be quite successful if they focus on what actually are big problems instead of the usual sjw stuff that they are famous for in the UK.

One of the biggest problems for younger generations is the housing market. It's similar to nearly all western countries at this point, but at least in Europe renting is a bit better. Landlords in the UK are mostly shit, charging extortionate prices, falling foul of many laws via ignorance/knowing they can get away with it because legal system is too expensive for already poorer people to use, along with being time consuming/not worth the effort.

If labour could just focus on stuff like that, I'd be tempted to actually vote for them. It's a massive massive problem that is going to have nasty consequences if not sorted. Though if they got in, they'd probably have the bastard tony blair advising whoever was PM.

Unfortunately in the UK, the vast majority of 60+ people who are the majority voting block vote tory, who I've recently came to really dislike with the amount of sheer lying from Boris going on. It's really quite unbelievable how much someone can lie straight to the camera and papers and get away with it constantly. Though they are the only party that have a libertarian element that opposed the authoritarianism that is getting worse and worse....

Back to topic, labour could introduce sensible green policies, but I'd be worried that they'd kowtow to the radical element of the green movement in the UK, and introduce crazy measures. Who knows though, a bit speculative.

I've certainly noticed this summer the crazy muggy heat we've had here. For some reason, and this is purely anecdotal, but I previously would have enjoyed such warm weather, but it's just made me really irritable and it's not been fun!

You are from the UK, I understand? Do you ever watch Michael Bisping, the retired UFC fighter, on the "Believe You Me," podcast! I fucking love that shit!

Were you alive in 1958 and 1976? I don't know, but I was and believe me, both years had tremendously hot summers in the UK -- the current summer isn't anywhere near them, in fact has been rather cool overall. Not as if the UK is that significant when it comes to global weather patterns. Thing is, a lot of people are looking for the occasional few weeks of highish temperatures to fit a pre-existing confirmation bias. Disasters caused by weather, which have always happened, get blown out of proportion and add to the insane panic.

Look -- the earth has warmed up, on average, by a very moderate amount in the last 100 years or so. It's nothing special and is most probably a rebound from the little ice age. Blaming it on CO2 is in my view absolutely crazy, and is causing greens to go mental, encouraging measures that don't help, in fact often make things worse. They should concentrate on mitigating genuine environmental problems rather than adding to them, but they're so busy promulgating anthropogenic global warming that they can't see the forest for the trees. Somehow, maybe for most of them unwittingly, they've become the antithesis of what they're supposed to be, and all because of the religion of AGW.

Yes I’m sure you were around 200, 500, 2000 years ago to be able to state that the average temperature rise in the UK of 0.8 C during the last 30 years is nothing special.

You might remember a hot summer or two in your youth at your exact position back then. These anecdotal memories does nothing to counter the tons of data being collected all over the planet proving the temperature on average is climbing and that it has sideffects on the climate as a whole. Do you also deny methane and carbon dioxide levels are climbing? Or maybe you just happen to know that we can modify the composition of the atmosphere without any effects at all?

Aye, from blighty! But I don't really follow UFC unfortuntely!

I was not alive back then.

I've just recently in the past few months came to realise that getting to the bottom of things like climate change is pretty much beyond my capabilities. I can't really determine if they are telling porkies or not, much like with many things these days. The truth is incredibly hard to find.

So, in the absence of being able to understand it fully, I think I'll leave it to the scientists who although probably do have conflicts of interest (we know this is something that actually happens from the whole materialism v everyone else thing), they are probably right that something is going on with the climate that is our doing. It's hard to imagine that all of the output of the past 100 years of industrialisation didn't have some effect. From what I can tell, the argument about the 1 degree increase in overall average global temp from the NASA link David posted, seemed pretty legit and credible.

For me, the real issue is how we go about it. Drastic changes will be a hard sell. That is, unless the next conspiracy theory of climate lockdowns comes to fruition. I honestly wouldn't be surprised.

But yes, we do need to be careful about the extreme element of any green political party/group/idea.

Unsustainable. I've seen these monsters on islands but if we can't be sustainable on the main land there's no long term future

I've been seeing an uptrend in the media and social media around the effects of climate change and what is to be 'done' about it more recently.

I don't really have a scooby, but quite a few commentators were saying that we should all go vegan, give up meat/tax it to hell, have no children and that there should be a carbon tax. I would be a bit screwed since I cannot tolerate lots of veggies with all the fibre, they give me painful cramps and gas. I also don't like vegetables all that much either, I think they mostly taste like crap, so I guess my tastebuds agree with my body!

So pardon me for being a bit sceptical, but I wonder if those people really understand how significant those changes would be? They should be providing 1000% robust and solid evidence every time they mention it, otherwise they put people off more (which I don't think they understand either) with all this talk. I shouldn't have to understand what is going on with climate change, without a bunch of radical vegan green types flooding the conversation, moralising the consumption of meat and shaming people who eat it, and making grand proclamations of doom.

I seriously doubt that the majority of the population would accept these measures anyway, unless we start doing a climate style state of emergency with all the propaganda that was used in the UK for the COVID thing (NHS releasing shocking stuff). I reckon we'd probably just accept it in that case, as we are now conditioned to accept this new normal.
